Online Selling Binge

July 13th, 2008 Posted in Selling Online

Half.com an eBay CompanyAfter putting my motorcycle up for sale using craigslist, I got a bug up me to start selling some more things online. I looked around for things to sell to help de-clutter my life; and then it hit me….goodbye school books: for some reason or another, I never want to get rid of my college textbooks until now. Unfortunately for me, the price of each book is substantially lower now that I have out of my undergraduate studies for 3 years, but the less clutter the better.

For my online battleground of choice I have decided to use Half.com; if you remember from a previous post, 10 Things Worth Trying Electronically, I suggest that you try shopping at Half.com (and if you do please check out everything I have for sale), but this time I am going to show you how easy it is to sell your used books through Half.com. Remember, Half.com will allow you to sell other things just as easy; however, for this how-to I am going to stick with books.

Log in to Half.com

When you have browsed your library of old books, and have identified which books get the boot, it’s time to log on to Half.com. Log in with your username and password, and then click the Sell Your Stuff link; if you have never sold anything through Half.com, it will ask you for two things:

  1. Credit Card for verification purposed.
  2. Bank Information for payments.

Post Items for Sale

Once in the Selling section of the website, you will see a categories display: since we are working with books, we will select the Books category bring us to the ISBN page. Once at this page we have two choices to make:

  1. Enter the ISBN number and select continue
  2. Use the Multiple Item Listing page

Fill Out Information

You will then want to fill out the detail information for everything you are selling. Choose whether your items are Brand New, Like New, Very Good, Good, or Acceptable. After that, write a nice description of the item you are selling. Once you have finished filling out your information, proceed to the pricing component.

Price Your Item

Half.com will help you price you items: they provide you with the statistics of the average sale price, the sale price range, and the sale price range for the condition you selected. In my case, I just want to get rid of everything so I have priced my books to sell. Once you have set your prices you are done with posting process.

Monitor Your Account

After your items are posted, you can monitor you account by clicking on the My Account link and going to the Manage Inventory section. From your inventory management, you have the ability to change any of the information you have previously entered about a specific item and you can change the price that you are selling it at.

Completing a Sale

After you have received an order for one of your items, make sure to ship promptly. I would suggest finding out the cheapest means of delivery before hand, this way you will be able to ship immediately.

Using Half.com to sell is just as easy as it is to shop. Hope this helps, and happy selling.

Half.com? I thought they had gone under and everyone was just an Amazon reseller now. Thanks for setting me straight!

What a success with craiglist then. I do hope the scammers in the site lowers because we always find them in the house rental section, at least in<european sites. Maybe in the US, the site is better and more effective and efficient.

Very informative post. I will remember these sites when I plan to sell stuffs.

There are so many options nowadays to sell items online. Most people probably stick with either eBay or Amazon. It’s nice to have other options as well.

For me I liked to use the online classifieds in my local area since it cost nothing to list in them.
